The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the Vatican II Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium, which for the first time in a conciliar document includes a chapter on lay people and their role in the Church and the world.
Lay Mission and Vocation Conference & Catholic Social Forum on Synodality
To mark the occasion, the Australian Cardijn Institute and the Centre International Cardijn are partnering with several lay apostolate movements to hold a commemorative conference/event in Rome from 9-13 October 2024.
The program will include a second Mass at the Catacombs commemorating and recommitting to the Pact of the Catacombs as well as a special Mass in Cardijn’s cardinal’s church of St Michael Archangel in the working-class suburb of Pietralata.
The conference will particularly focus on Lumen Gentium‘s Chapter 4, The Laity, and takes as its theme “Lay People: Mission and Vocation, 60th anniversary of Lumen Gentium.”

This conference/event will also form part of a broader Catholic Social Forum on Synodality program organised in collaboration with the International Youth Training Centre in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and the International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS).
