In 1996 Fermina obtained a degree and a PhD in Modern History from the Faculty of Geography and History of the Complutense University of Madrid with a dissertation on the Tribunal of the Inquisition of Cartagena de Indias in the 17th century.
From 1998 to 2011, from the chair of Spanish language at the Faculties of Political Sciences of the Universities of Roma Tre and La Sapienza, she taught seminars on some topics of the history of Spain and Latin America.
In June 2018 she obtained a PhD in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Lateran University, with the dissertation «Cum Petro et sub Petro. Primacy and episcopate from Vatican I to Vatican II. The contribution of some Roman theologians».
In the field of Church History, from 1999 to 2019, she collaborated as a researcher at the Center for Studies and Research on the Second Vatican Council of the Pontifical Lateran University, and since 2011 he has been a member of the editorial board of the magazine «Centro Vaticano II. Studi e Ricerche».
Her publications include various studies on the Spanish participation in the Second Vatican Council and on the contribution of several Italian theologians, in addition to other historical-theological works on the life of the Church.
